The Emergency Room-Outpatient Department (ER-OPD) is one of the busiest areas of the Center.  These sensitive areas are manned by physicians, nurses and nursing attendants who are highly skilled and specially trained to handle ambulatory and life-threatening cases that require medical attention and care. With a carefully selected consultant staff consisting of board certified pulmonologists and thoracic surgeons who closely supervisse the activities within the area, it is a very good training ground for fellows seeking to become specialists in their chosen fields.
     

       ER-OPD involves in consultation, work-up and follow-up of both private and service patients not requiring confinement. The provision of a 24-hour emergency care management at the Emergency Room, the areas of General and Specialty Clinics, and Private Doctors' Clinics are under the office of the ER-OPD Manager.

       As the only medical center in the country which offers Specialty Clinics for consultations and follow-ups of specific lung and related conditions, the Department has the following clinic day schedules from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm  

Monday              :  Asthma, Oncology
Tuesday             :  Pulmonary Tuberculosis (PTB)
Wednesday         :  Thoracic Surgery, COPD, Oncology
Thursday            :  PTB,
Friday                :  Oncology, COPD, Pain Management
   
     Patients who prefer to have pay consultations with their own attending physicians have the option go directly to the Private Doctors' Clinics where the clinics of practicing specialists not only in chest medicine but other fields of specialization are situated.

      Walk-in patients who would like to seek medical consultation as charity cases are advised to register at the OPD Clinics Waiting Area from 7:00 am to 10:30 am for new patients, and from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm for old patients and Specialty Clinics consultations. Those who prefer pay consultations are referred by the Information Clerk to the Consultant on Call for the day.


      As a reflection of the area's adherence to the principle of providing excellent service to all those needing expert healthcare regardless of religion, sex, age, regional background or social status, the Department had been a recipient of the “Salamin ng Bayan” award in accordance with the Code of Ethics and Ethical Standards for Government Officials and Employees in 1992 under the leadership of Dr. Jose Pepito M. Amores.
